PROGRAM OVERVIEW
What to Expect
The Tufts University AEGD at Community Dental provides a rich, collaborative environment for residents looking to make a difference in public health dentistry. Students should also be aware that the state of Maine offers a loan repayment program for dentists who elect to work at practices serving high-needs communities – many of our residents join Community Dental after graduation and take advantage of these generous programs. Community Dental allows residents to experience the beauty of Maine, from the coast to the mountains. Our staff live in the city, the suburbs and in the country – there’s something for everyone.
LIVING IN MAINE
A Beautiful Place to Learn
Our four dental centers stretch from Southern Maine (Biddeford and Portland), up to Central Maine (Lewiston), and out to the Western Foothills (Farmington). Enjoy Maine’s beautiful seacoast in a small coastal community or a cosmopolitan area with award-winning restaurants, historic downtown, and a thriving cultural scene. If you enjoy outdoor recreation, you may live and work in western or central Maine’s foothills, with access to premier ski resorts and all-season recreational opportunities. Be a part of the leading edge in dental care and a pillar of service to the communities we serve!
CURRICULUM
The Residency Experience
The didactic portion of the AEGD program is conducted throughout the year. It emphasizes ideal, alternative, and actual treatment planning via case presentations for dental and medical management for all patient populations. The program includes continuing education courses at the University, Community Dental, and other institutions. Residents participate in weekly patient care conferences (including guest lectures) in-person and through a distance-learning website created for the program. Faculty members review individual personal and professional goals designed explicitly by each resident each trimester. Each resident can focus on their needs and interests in dentistry and medicine.
COHORT
Your peers and preceptors
Your residency cohort will include up to five individuals. You’ll work closely in and out of the clinic, sharing an office together in the Portland Center. Our preceptors want to know and spend time with you too!
